A Stylist’s Guide to Using Vanishing Oil

A Stylist’s Guide to Using Vanishing Oil

Sometimes the finishing touch is what brings the whole style together. A little shine reveals the shape of a curl, softens the look of dry ends, or gives a blowout the polish your client was hoping for. And a great hair oil can help bring out those details, but how you apply it makes a big difference in the results.

That application is also something clients can take home with them. They may love how their hair feels leaving the salon, but knowing how much product to use—and where to put it—helps them recreate the finish after their next wash.

privé Vanishing Oil helps smooth frizz, soften dry texture, and enhance shine without leaving greasy residue. The lightweight, ultra-restorative formula works on damp or dry hair, allowing you to bring softness into the styling process or add polish once the shape is in place.

Choose the Application Around the Style

Start with the client’s texture, density, and the look you’re creating. Fine hair may only need a light application toward the ends, while longer or thicker hair may benefit from working through smaller sections to distribute the oil evenly.

The desired finish helps guide when you use it, too. On damp hair, Vanishing Oil helps soften the lengths and smooth frizz before styling. On dry hair, you can see exactly where the ends need attention or where a little shine would bring out the shape.

Either way, begin with a small amount, spread it between your palms, and work through the mid-lengths and ends. Check the feel of the hair before adding more. As you work, let the client see how much you’re using and where you’re applying it so they have an idea for when they apply it themselves.

Bring Softness Into the Styling Process

If you’re using Vanishing Oil on damp hair, distribute it through the lengths before styling, taking sections where needed to reach the underneath layers as well as the top.

For curls and waves, gently work it through the hair, then continue with the products and techniques you’ve chosen for definition. Explain which step in their routine the oil belongs as you apply it, especially if the client tends to layer several products at home without knowing how much of each to use.

For a blow-dry, include a dedicated protection step before heat styling. Prep & Protect fits into that stage, while Vanishing Oil adds softness and shine through the lengths. Showing your client what each product does makes the routine easier to follow when they’re standing in front of their own mirror.

Once you’ve finished styling, pause and look at the hair before adding more oil. You may already have the softness and shine you want, or the ends might benefit from a light finishing touch.

Add Polish Where It’s Needed

On a finished blowout, focus on the areas that need smoothing or softening. Spread a small amount of Vanishing Oil between your palms, then lightly work it through the mid-lengths and ends, keeping the root area free is you’re looking to get extra lift.

This is a good moment to address any concerns the client has about hair oil. If they’ve found it too heavy in the past, show how a smaller amount and more targeted placement can change the way it feels. They may have been applying it from roots to ends when only the lengths needed attention.

With curls and textured styles, use the same lightweight approach while working with the finished shape. Gently apply the oil to dry-looking areas or frizz that needs smoothing, avoiding repeated brushing through the curls. The shine helps bring out their definition while the lightweight formula leaves the hair soft and manageable.

Let the client feel the lengths once you’ve finished. Connecting that softness with the application they’ve just watched helps them understand what the oil contributes—and why they don’t need to keep adding more.

Know What’s Behind the Finish

The softness and shine come from a quick-absorbing formula infused with baobab proteins and oil, kukui oil, and carrot seed oil.

Baobab proteins and oil deeply nourish and help lock in moisture, while kukui oil conditions and helps protect against environmental stressors. Carrot seed oil promotes healthy-looking shine, rounding out a blend that hydrates, smooths frizz, and leaves the lengths glossy without greasy residue or buildup.

For clients interested in ingredients, relate those details to what they’ve noticed during the service. If they comment on how soft their ends feel or how shiny their curls look, you have a natural opening to explain the formula. And if they’re looking for vegan, cruelty-free haircare, it ticks both boxes.

Help the Finish Last Beyond the Appointment

Before the client leaves, bring the advice back to their own routine. If they usually air-dry, explain how to apply a small amount through damp lengths. If they love a blowout, show them how to add a light finishing touch once the hair is dry.

For use between washes, encourage them to look at and feel their hair first. Dry ends or a few areas of frizz may need attention, but that doesn’t mean the whole style needs another layer of oil.

If dryness comes up regularly, ask about their wash-day care as well. Damage Fix Shampoo + Conditioner help leave dry, brittle, or over-processed hair softer and easier to manage, with Vanishing Oil adding softness and shine through the lengths afterwards.

At their next appointment, ask how the application worked at home. A small adjustment to the amount or placement may be all they need. The goal is for clients to leave with a finish they love and a clear idea of how to use the product that helped create it.
